Job Description

Community Maternity Services (CMS), is an agency of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. CMS is a non-profit agency that has been serving the Capital Region for 50 years. CMS provides family-oriented and community-based programs through individualized social services and community education programs. We offer a continuum of care for adolescents, young parents and their children. The youth we serve are placed in either of our residential programs due to the youth being placed in foster care and requiring a congregate care facility.

CMS is currently hiring Youth Specialists - Weekend Warriors to work in our Residential Programs. The Residential Programs operate 24 hours per day/7days per week/365 days per year. This position is direct-care working with children with mental health and/or behavioral concerns. As a Youth Specialist - Weekend Warrior, you will be required to:

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Assure the daily care and safety of youth in the program;

  • Advocate for youth in a variety of systems and settings;

  • Follow program routine while at the same time maintaining flexibility and delivering care in a sincere, caring and nurturing manner;

  • Complete household duties such as laundry, cleaning, cooking and transporting clients;

  • Work as a member of a Therapeutic Team; recognizing the effects of trauma on children/adolescents and respond appropriately to situations as they arise;

  • Commit to work at least one regularly scheduled Saturday or Sunday shift plus one additional shift each week

Youth Specialist - Weekend Warrior Minimum Salary: $23.00/hour

Youth Specialist - Weekend Warrior Maximum Salary: $25.00/hour

Youth Specialist - Weekend Warrior position is required to commit to a schedule of 14 hours each week including one regularly scheduled Saturday or Sunday shift each week. Day, Evening and Overnight weekend shifts are available.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one year of directly relevant experience working with youth in a residential setting, preferably youth with mental health needs. A High School of HSE is required, with an Associates in a Human Service or related field preferred

  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Behavior Management Techniques is helpful but not required. Training will be provided for an otherwise qualified candidate.

  • Required attendance at multiple trainings, in-services, staff meetings and weekly supervision, many of which will be scheduled during regular business hours (outside of your regularly scheduled shift(s). Time for attendance at all trainings, meetings, etc. is paid time.

  • Valid NYS driver's license

  • Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to (1) lift a child weighing up to 40 lbs., (2) demonstrate a full range of motion, (3) sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and (4) walk up and down stairs as necessary
