Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Buildings & Grounds, the Maintenance I position is responsible for performing all necessary tasks to maintain and improve the appearance, functioning, and operation of agency buildings, property and equipment belonging to the agency. This individual will have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and safety procedures in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, grounds keeping, and pest management.

Job Specifications & Requirements

  • High School/GED required; Some college preferred.

  • A combination of education, training & experience will be considered.

  • A current, Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed at least one year) is required.

  • Significant knowledge in use/care of all tools & equipment used to perform duties is essential.

  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergency maintenance calls, as needed.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Business Suite, & Secure Internet practices.

  • Qualities of positivity, flexibility and adaptability; Proven record of integrity, reliability and dependability.

  • Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail and writing aptitude.

  • Must be able to pass background check requirements.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities include

    Performing general and extensive maintenance (cleaning, painting, repair work) of agency buildings and grounds:

  • Moving furnishings, supplies and equipment.

  • Picking up and delivering supplies and materials.

  • Making minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.

  • Performing yard work, both seasonal and ordinary.

  • Cleaning rooms, hallways, restrooms, offices and stairways.

  • Performing touch up, priming and finish painting.

  • Setting up and tearing down of chairs, tables and equipment.

  • Using hand tools, power tools, gas powered equipment and other equipment to make minor maintenance repairs, to maintain grounds and properties.

  • Completes maintenance of hand tools, power tools and gas-powered equipment.

  • Follows all applicable safety rules, practices and procedures.

  • Maintains a safe working environment by ensuring that all tools, materials and supplies are kept out of reach of all clients and are properly stored.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Buildings & Grounds.
