Provides nutritional care and education to in-patients and physician referred outpatients according to established guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.
Essential Job Functions:
Screens and assesses patients to determine nutritional status and initiates/individualizes nutrition intervention/plan of care based on assessment. Provides follow up to evaluate response to plan of care.
Completes Nutrition Focused Physical Exams to diagnose malnutrition as indicated
Calculates patient needs and makes recommendations to physicians regarding nutritional care.
Interview patients to obtain information regarding the patient’s nutritional status, food habits and preferences to assist with individualizing patient’s nutrition care plan.
Educates patients and families on diet and lifestyle changes for optimal health.
Act as preceptor for students in Dietetics/Dietary Managers course.
Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred, but will accept registry eligible at time of hire. Must be registered within one year of hire.
Licensed to practice in the state of South Dakota or application for licensure within one month of hire.
This job position requires that you maintain a valid driver’s license.
