Overview

Gunsmith (EAGLE2025-22706):

Bowhead seeks a Gunsmith to support its recently awarded Eagle contract in Aberdeen, MD.The Gunsmith performs on- and off-site, scheduled, field-level maintenance on small arms weapons that training units draw from the equipment pool on extended (annual or longer) tally in accordance with applicable Technical Manuals.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Performs detailed assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms weapons, including small arms inspection, maintenance, and repairs.

  • Builds custom pistols and rifles as needed, as well as other types of weapons systems.

  • Works with and possesses a thorough understanding of machine tools and equipment.

  • Works from blueprints without supervision.

  • Fabricates and develops prototype small arms systems from a drawing or from customer input.

  • Works at the Special Repair Facility Level maintenance.

  • Designs Computer prototypes from customer input.

  • Consults with Government officials in all facets concerning the Weapons Department, such as, but not limited to, indoor/outdoor range design, ammunition fundamentals, ballistics, weapons mounts, suppressors, optic systems, prototype development, and reverse engineering projects.

  • Follows basic shop safety procedures needed to work in a small arms environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required in addition to two to five (2 to 5) years of experience

  • Completed training at an accredited in-house gunsmithing course or equivalent work experience.

  • A clearance for unaccompanied access to Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AA&E).

  • Valid state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.

  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

  • Bend, Squat, Stoop, Crouch, Lean, Sit, and Balance.

  • Work with power/automated hand tools.

  • Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds.

  • Stand for long periods of time.

  • Repeat the same movements.

  • Exposure to excessive noise.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. Due to the location of this work, U.S. citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
